Thanks for supporting the sponsors that make Super Style Me possible!Hello and welcome to another exciting outfit post! While I’d like to say I spent a lot of time and consideration picking out what I’m wearing here, these pictures were more of an excuse to play with my new toy, a Nikon 50mm f/1.8G AF-S NIKKOR FX lens. I’m far from being an expert photographer, but I love fashion pics with blurry, or bokeh, backgrounds. After doing some research, I found out that this was the right lens for the job. It makes the outfit pop, don’t you think? I also have been relentlessly chasing my friends’ pets to take pictures with cool lens effects. Turns out, dogs really don’t like to stay still…
All things considered, this outfit was a happy accident. While I’ve played around with print mixing, texture is new for me. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I ordered this Eloquii skirt, but I figured what the heck since it was on sale. Textured fabrics, like tweed, have a reputation for being heavy, but this skirt has some sheer elements which makes it wearable in the spring.
Solid colors are perfect for wardrobe staples, but textures add that little something extra. Who says your go-to pieces of clothing have to be flat and boring? The checkerboard pattern in the skirt mixes well with the polka dot top – another one of my not so “basic” basics.
That day I felt like a little kid who was allowed to pick her own outfit for the first time. “I want to wear pink and polka dots and gold and sparkles!” is something I could imagine my four-year-old self saying. Some things never change!
How do you incorporate texture into your wardrobe? Let me know in the comments – I’m also interested in any photography tips you have while I play with my new lens! Thanks for reading!
