Pick the right pair of shoes and some rockin’ jewelry, and you’re good to go. It’s easy to envision a whole outfit with only one garment. However, while dresses can be versatile, they often don’t give you all the wardrobe options you need. separates-mid-2Even though I have a stuffed closet, I’m kind of lacking in the separates department – especially with tops that can match with different skirts and pants. While I haven’t done the whole capsule wardrobe thing in practice, I like to check out examples on different sites to see how to make several outfits with a fixed number of pieces. Lately, I’ve been using this as a test for whether I should buy something or not. If I’m able to have only 20 or so garments in my closet, would the new thing I want make the cut?separates-fullThis top and skirt would! While this little outfit makes me happy, I can wear them separately with many things I own. When it’s not tucked in, the top is long enough to be a tunic and looks cute over leggings or a pixie pant. As for the skirt, I’ve been looking for one just like it for a while, but I’ve had a difficult time finding this style in plus sizes. Lucky for me, eShakti had it this spring. Although they offer it in custom sizes, since it’s a circle skirt and the hip measurement isn’t very important, I decided to skip the customization fee and order a straight size. I like the pastel look, but I’d also love to pair it with a red top for the summer.

As for me, I don’t mind this top and skirt being “repeat offenders” in my upcoming outfits!

Thanks! I’ve been wearing more separates lately than dresses, it seems. I have a couple more skirt/top outfits up my sleeve…;)
