Hello! With a move in my very near future, I’ve been chomping at the bit to decorate my new space. I’m still in the shopping phase of my transition. Along with finding decor that fits my style and taste, I’m also looking for ways to get a lot of storage in a small space while sticking to a modest budget. Here are some of the cool things I found online that I’d like to add to my cozy new home.
A Beautiful Mess Happy Handmade Home: Painting, Crafting, and Decorating a Cheerful, More Inspiring Space (Hover over the link to take a peak inside the cover!)
Don’t decorate without this book! Bloggers Emma and Elsie include tons of DIY projects for bedrooms, living rooms, kitchens, and even parties, and they’re all budget-friendly. The ladies show you many ways to make your space bright and cheery, and you can look like an artist even if you can’t draw a straight line (like me). They include projects for bigger pieces, like furniture, bedspreads, and walls, as well as sweet little accents like flower pots and dish towels. Everything in the book is easily customizable, too, so you can make changes to suit your taste while still getting plenty of information about how to to do it all yourself. I bought this book before I knew I was moving, and I know I’ll use it again and again! You can find many more DIYs and other cool stuff on Emma and Elsie’s blog, A Beautiful Mess.
I’ve been inventory of what I do and don’t need. I’ve already purged a lot of unnecessary stuff, and I feel so free! That being said, many of my belongings are moving with me, and I’ll have to be more creative about where I stash it all.
This is genius! I saw something like this when they were doing a closet organizing segment on the Today Show. My new closet will be about half the size of my current one, so this completely solves my problem! I also like the hooks on the side – I can so use those for purses, scarves, or belts.
Customizable Over Door Shoe Rack 36 pr – 2014 NEW PRODUCT!!!Even with maximizing my closet space, I still don’t think my shoes will fit in there. I’m the farthest thing from being a shoe horse, but this rack will hold up to 36 pairs, so I’ll definitely have some room to grow. What’s also pretty neat is you can remove racks you don’t need and replace them with “pouches” to store other types of items. This rack looks like it’s more suited to be outside the door rather than inside the closet, which is something to consider if you like all of your things to be tucked away, but I bought my shoes because I like them, and I don’t mind looking at ’em when the door is closed.
Walls aren’t the only place you can put hooks! One day I was looking around Pinterest, and I found this post on the Better Homes and Garden website which shows a dresser with jewelry hooks on the side. I’m currently using chalk paint to refinish my bedroom furniture set, and while I like the idea of having more places to hang my jewelry, I don’t want to screw anything into my dresser that will leave holes or otherwise ruin my new paint job. In my current bedroom, I’m using these removable hooks on my wall to hold my necklace. They’re working out great, and they come off clean and stick to many types of surfaces.
GO TO BED!
My new bedding is something I haven’t quite figured out yet. I had a fangirl moment when I got an email announcing the Kate Spade Saturday and West Elm collection. I love the painted floral pattern, and the prices aren’t bad – way less expensive than a Kate Spade purse! But, still, I think I can DIY it for even cheaper with some fabric paint, and I can pick whichever colors I want.
The above white duvet and sham set would be easy to makeover, and I’d probably save a bit of money. Still, I haven’t decided whether my bedspread will be a buy or DIY, so stay tuned!
As you may have noticed, these products are available on Amazon. Because of this, I’ve been thinking about signing up for Amazon Prime. If you sign up, you get a number of services and cheaper prices and free 2-day shipping on many of the items they sell. There’s also a free trial period, and with the amount I’m planning to order from them, I’m seeing that the amount I’d save would be greater than the subscription cost once my trial is over. Have any of you signed up for Amazon Prime? How do you like it, and do you feel like it’s a good value?

I’ve also been checking out ModCloth’s home decor section for some cute, quirky decorations. Here are a few of my favorites:
Days Go Sly Pillow
Tide the Room Together Rug – 2×3
Cultivate Organization Scarf Hanger in Green
Myth Perfect Jewelry Holder
Yes, that is a jackalope. Your argument is invalid 😉
As you can see, I still have many decisions to make as far as setting up my new place, but checking out all of my options is the fun part. I hope this post gave you some inspiration for your apartment, bedroom, or dorm room. Until next time, make yourself at home!
