Hello, there! I’m so happy that you’re joining me for my new fall feature! For the month of November I’m going to do my own take on the “capsule wardrobe.” However, instead of picking X number of garments and showing you X number of outfits, each week I’ll feature one very versatile wardrobe piece and show you three ways to wear it on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

Here’s this week’s garment:

Whidbey Island Top in Daybreak

from: ModCloth

I picked a chambray shirt because it’s casual and coordinates with so many things in my closet. Also, the weather here has cooled off (finally!), and it makes a great layer. I present outfit #1:

DSC_1879yes_Fotoreditredux_FotorNever in a million years I thought bright yellow would be one of my favorite colors! In fact this isn’t the first time I paired this shirt with this pattern; check out this older outfit post. The chambray shirt peeks out both at the collar and by being cuffed at the sleeves. The look is both preppy and retro and great for those crisp fall days that aren’t exactly freezing. Like, really, who needs socks with ankle pants and oxfords?

What the most versatile items in your closet? Let me know in the comments!

Until next time, keep mixing it up!

Cool idea! Can’t wait to see what other outfits you pair with the chambray — I have a similar shirt in my closet and always wear it in really boring ways, so I’m excited to see how you style it this week. I love it with the yellow polka dots!

Thank you, Whitney! I don’t wear button-up shirts often, so it was kind of a challenge for me to style. It looked like my closet exploded yesterday when I was putting together outfits!

I think I saw you on the ModCloth page. Was that you on the “Most Loved Looks” graphic wearing the Coach Tour dress? Lookin’ good 🙂

Oh, I hadn’t seen it yet — yep, that’s me! Thanks!! 🙂 I’m realizing as I’ve been putting together outfits & photographing them that I tend to wear the same thing over & over and wear a weird amount of black & white. Are you naturally drawn to wear a lot of color, or do you push yourself to try something new every time you put together an outfit for your blog? I definitely feel like I’m pushing myself, but in a good way — no more feeling frumpy and bored with what’s in my closet. It’s so fun!

It’s a bit of both–I try to mix things up and try what I haven’t before, but I seem to go back to my comfort zone: colors and polka dots. What’s funny is not so long ago, I would have been unsure about wearing those things…
